Want to know exactly what our packaging is made of and how to dispose of it or reuse it correctly? Here you’ll find all the materials – honestly and without marketing phrases.
The violet glass jar: for keeping and refilling
Our organic tea blends come in a violet glass jar with a screw lid. The very dark glass blocks out most visible light – so the colour and aroma of your tea are well protected. The jar is made for you to keep: once the tea is used up, simply refill it with our refill bag.
Disposal: If you no longer want to use the jar, it belongs in the glass recycling bin. Please unscrew the lid first and dispose of it separately.
The refill bag: aluminium-free
Our refill bags are made of kraft paper on the outside and have a thin plastic layer on the inside. We need this layer so that the bag can be heat-sealed and your tea is protected from moisture and loss of aroma. We do without an aluminium layer.
Disposal: As the bag is made of paper and plastic, it does not belong in the paper recycling but in the packaging waste (in Germany: the yellow bin or yellow bag).
Shipping box, tape & filling material
We usually ship in made-to-measure boxes so that as little filling material as possible is needed. They are sealed with paper tape without a silicone coating. You can dispose of the box and tape together in the paper recycling.
As filling material we use waste paper, for example unsold newspapers from local partnerships, which also belongs in the paper recycling. If that isn’t enough, we use loose-fill chips made from plant starch (e.g. wheat starch) without petroleum-based components. The chips dissolve in water. Whether they may go in your organic waste bin is determined by your local authority – if in doubt, they belong in general waste.
The refill principle
Here’s how it works: buy the violet glass jar once, then refill it with the refill bag. You get the same organic tea blend without buying a new jar every time.
